Yayın Evolution of business models during the Covid-19 pandemic(PressAcademia, 2022-07-30) Teker, Suat; Örendil, EmrePurpose - The purpose of this study is to propose a comprehensive definition for business models, reviews and summarizes the findings of a previous work by Guckenbiehl and Corral de Zubielqui (2022) about how business models have evolved by providing insights from reshaped businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology - In this study, an extensive literature review is followed to learn about definition of business models and how business model have been adapted or even innovated during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings - Construction of a well-planned business model is a requirement for an organization to reach success. In the times of disruptive events, business models go through adaptive or innovative changes which is a necessity for survival and further success. It is observed that organizations generate different responses to crises (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) in means of business model changes. The understanding of these differences is facilitated by the aforementioned work through grouping organizations in six different clusters. Conclusion - The structure of a business model prior to the COVID-19 pandemic was also one of the determinants of a business’s response to the pandemic. Businesses either made no changes in their business models, or made notable innovations, or little adaptations in response to the disruptive environment.Yayın Satisfaction of higher education students with blackboard learning system during Covid-19(PressAcademia, 2023-06-30) Alyadum, Yasser Abdullah Mohsen; Falcıoğlu, PınarPurpose- With the advent of the novel COVID-19 disease, the world has become facing an extraordinary situation that has changed the course of normal human life upside down and pushed them towards compulsory, recent technology-based alternative solutions, education being not an exception. Higher education institutions in Turkey rushed from the first moments to avoid the disruption of education process, and transformed into the full-fledged online learning system. Current study addressed aims to investigate how satisfied higher education students are with the transformation to Blackboard Learning System in İstanbul, Turkey during COVID-19. The study compares undergraduate and postgraduate students’ perceptions via thirty items divided into six axes, which are included in a single model. Methodology- An online questionnaire survey sent through BLS itself and WhatsApp was filled out by a total of 294 student respondents, wherein afterwards an inferential and descriptive study with quantitative approach has been employed for analyzing their perceptions. Findings- The results are indicative that the Usefulness, Engagement, Communication and Ease of Use, Self-efficacy, and Challenges axes respectively have a statistically significant effect on students’ perceptions concerning satisfaction with the BLS. As the Usefulness and Engagement axes have the highest contribution to students’ satisfaction with the BLS, the Challenges axis has the least contribution. The findings state that satisfaction of postgraduate students, in terms of Self-efficacy, Communication and Ease of Use and Challenges axes, along with a clear supremacy over the Overall axes level is higher than undergraduate students. Moreover, all demographic dimensions except gender, place of living, the kind of device preferred and the willingness in using BLS in the future, influence students’ perceptions. Conclusion- It can be concluded that the transformation into BLS during COVID-19 has been satisfactory for higher education students, especially for postgraduate students. Some traits and drawbacks of BLS have been inferred along with recommendations which may contribute to successful implementation of BLS.Yayın Istanbul’s community mobility changes during the COVID-19 pandemic: a spatial analysis(Istanbul University Press, 2023-08-15) Arık, Ahmet Okan; Çavdaroğlu, Gülsüm ÇiğdemCOVID-19 was the most recent pandemic to strike humanity. Moreover, this pandemic occurred during the most active period of global interaction and mobility, unlike pandemics like cholera, plague, and flu in earlier centuries. Many countries restricted domestic mobility after suspending international mobility to prevent the pandemic from spreading. Although these policies differ from nation to nation, they have affected the mobility of communities. This study examined spatial and non-spatial independent variables that affected how the community’s mobility patterns changed in various locations, including parks, transit stations, workplaces, grocery and pharmacies, and residential areas in Istanbul, Türkiye. The impact of the independent spatial variables on the mobility changes was examined after identifying the non-spatial independent variables influencing the mobility changes in 6 different areas. It was determined that the altitude variable, expected to impact how mobility changed, had no overall impact on the dependent variable. On the other hand, the dependent variables representing the mobility changes were affected by the independent variables representing the county center’s latitude and longitude values and whether the county is located near the sea. Regression analysis across Türkiye will be performed in upcoming studies using an updated version of the methodology used in this study.
