Yayın Reversible film formation from PS doped PNIPAM particles in various compositions(John Wiley & Sons Inc, 2008-02) Uğur, Şaziye; Yargı, Önder; Pekcan, Mehmet ÖnderFilm formation from polystyrene (PS) doped poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) particles was studied using photon transmission technique. The transmitted light intensity, Itr, was monitored during film formation process. Films were prepared by mixing PS and PNIPAM particles in various compositions ranging from 5 to 50 %. Samples were separately heated and cooled in constant rate at temperatures ranging from 10 to 100 C. The increase and decrease in Itr during heating-cooling cycles were explained by void closure and void reconstruction processes. The corresponding activation energies were measured during the reversible film formation process. Percolation model was used to interpret the distribution of PS particles in PNIPAM lattice.Yayın Monovalent and divalent cation effects on phase transitions of iota-carrageenan(Sage Publications Ltd, 2007-01) Kara, Selim; Arda, Ertan; Pekcan, Mehmet ÖnderPhase transitions Of L-carrageenan in a variety of monovalent (Li, Na, K) and divalent (Mg, Ca, Sr) cation solutions were studied during heating and cooling by using photon transmission technique. Photon transmission intensity (I-tr) was monitored against temperature to determine the transition temperatures and activation energies during the heating and cooling processes in the monovalent and divalent systems. Three distinct transition regions were observed during the heating and cooling cycles for the carrageenan-divalent salt system. At the first step of the heating process, dimer groups were transformed into dimers that presented (g-d) transitions, then these dimers were directly converted into a double helix by undergoing a (d-h) transition. In the higher temperature region, a double helix-to-coil (h-c) transition took place. During the cooling process, these transitions are arranged in the order of (c-h), (h-d), and (d-g). The carrageenan-monovalent salt system presented only coil-to-rod-like helix (c-r) and rod-like helix-to-coil (r-c) transitions during the cooling and heating processes, respectively. A hysteresis was observed between (r-c)-(c-r) and (g-d)-(d-g) transitions for the monovalent and divalent cations, respectively.Yayın Thermally assisted OSL from deep traps in Al2O3:C(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2010-03) Polymeris, George S.; Raptis, Spyridoula; Afouxenidis, Dimitrios; Tsirliganis, Nestor C.; Kitis, GeorgeThe present work suggests an alternative experimental method in order to not only measure the signal of the deep traps in Al2O3:C without heating the sample to temperatures greater than 500 degrees C, but also use this signal for high dose level dosimetry purposes as well. This method consists of photo transfer OSL measurements performed at elevated temperatures using the blue LEDs (470 nm, FWHM 20 nm) housed at commercial Riso TL/OSL systems, after the sample was previously heated up to 500 degrees C in order to empty its main TL dosimetric trap. The influence of this procedure on specific features such as glow curve shape and sensitivity of the main TL glow peak was also studied.Yayın Equivalent dose in quartz from young samples using the SAR protocol and the effect of preheat temperature(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2006-09) Güneç Kıyak, Nafiye; Canel, TimurMajor concerns in the dating of samples younger than a few hundred years by the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) technique are thermal transfer and partial bleaching. Thermal transfer during preheating enhances the OSL signal due to the charge transfer from thermally sensitive, but light-insensitive, traps to optical centres of quartz and results in an overestimate in equivalent dose, especially for very young samples. In this study, the single-aliquot regenerative-dose protocol is used to obtain values of equivalent dose (D-e) from young samples taken from various environments around Istanbul. Within this framework, we aim to investigate the effect of preheat temperature on equivalent dose from 150 to 300 degrees C, the reproducibility of De measurements for young deposits and the contribution from thermal transfer of charge to the equivalent dose estimation. It was observed that the measured dose is influenced significantly by preheat temperature and the increase in the De is clearly due to thermal transfer of charge from deep thermally sensitive traps to OSL trap during preheating of the samples prior to the main OSL measurements.Yayın Reversible film formation from nano-sized PNIPAM particles below glass transition(Springer-Verlag, 2007-01) Uğur, Şaziye; Elaissari, Abdelhamid; Yargı, Önder; Pekcan, Mehmet ÖnderReversible film formation process from nano-sized Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) microgel particles were studied during heating-cooling cycles at various rates. Photon transmission technique was used and transmitted photon intensity I (tr) was monitored during heating-cooling cycles. The increase and decrease in I (tr) during heating and cooling was explained with the void closure and void reconstruction processes, and the corresponding activation energies were measured. It was observed that PNIPAM microgels required less energy during reconstruction of voids than their closure.Yayın Update and revision of Turkish air quality regulation(Inderscience Enterprises LTD, 2009) Okutan, Hasancan; Ekinci, Ekrem; Alp, KadirThe Air Quality Assurance Regulation (AQAR) was issued on October 1986. This regulation was basically a direct translation of the German TA-Luft of 1984. The main purpose of AQAR was to control the effect of industry, domestic heating and Traffic on ambient air quality which previously had not adequately been represented. Two new regulations, "Industry Related Air Pollution Control Regulation" (IRAPCR) and "Heating Related Air Pollution Control Regulation" (HRAPCR), came into force in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Two more regulations on traffic-related air pollution control and ambient air quality are to be issued. In this study, we evaluate the two air pollution control regulations IRAPCR and HRAPCR on legal, technical, administrative, practical and global basis. A comparison of these two new regulations with EU Directives has also been made.
