Yayın Using the ultrasonic stress wave technique to evaluate structural timber members of an old masonry building(Kastamonu Univ, Orman Fak, 2018) Koca, Gülru; Dündar, Türker; As, NusretAim of study: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the current state of the structural timber members of an old masonry building by using destructive and non-destructive test methods and to determine the efficiency of non-destructive test methods by obtaining correlations between destructive and non-destructive test parameters. Area of study: Specimens were extracted from different parts of an old semi-detached masonry building in Istanbul, Turkey. The building was built at the beginning of the 20th century in Kadikoy, a residential district in the Asia side of Istanbul. Material and Methods: Ultrasonic stress wave test was carried out on specimens prepared from the structural members. Following the ultrasonic based non-destructive tests, the bending strength and modulus of elasticity in the bending tests were determined for the specimens. Main results: According to the results of the experiments, it was observed that the regression correlations were high for the softwoods (fir and spruce), but relatively lower correlations were obtained for the chestnut specimens. Highlights: Because of the good R-2 values obtained between the MOED and mechanical properties of the softwoods, the non-destructive stress wave technique can be recommended for the evaluation of softwoods in structures. Although chestnut showed very good mechanical properties, a satisfactory evaluation of the chestnut members could not be obtained because of the small number of specimens. Further investigation is needed with large sample groups.Yayın Strengthening of reinforced concrete beams without transverse reinforcement by using intraply hybrid composites(Elsevier Ltd, 2021-12) Çakır, Ferit; Acar, Volkan; Aydın, Muhammet Raci; Akşar, Bora; Yıldırım, PınarConcrete is currently among the most widely used materials all around the world. The main advantages of concrete include durability, versatility, and high compressive strength, but significant disadvantages include low tensile strength, low shear strength, and low ductility. To eliminate these disadvantages, longitudinal and transverse reinforcements are usually preferred. Steel is widely used as a reinforcement material in the world, but there is still research underway to find alternative materials. In recent decades, composite materials have been used to reinforce concrete instead of steel materials. This study focuses on Intraply Hybrid Composites (IHCs), which are had an important place in the composite industry and examines how these composites affect concrete beams as far as their shear strength is concerned. For this purpose, A length of 2 m RC beams, with no transverse reinforcement (RC2.0), is prepared and then reinforced with three IHCs, Aramid-Carbon (AC2.0), Glass-Aramid (GA2.0) and Carbon-Glass (CG2.0). After U-shape strengthening, the specimens are inspected in four-point bending tests and the effects of the IHCs are investigated on the shear strength of the beams. The experimental results show that there is an increase of 4.36%, 10.62%, and 15.28% in the ultimate load capacity of AC2.0, CG2.0, and GA2.0, respectively, compared to reference specimen, RC2.0. Furthermore, the type of hybrid composite has a direct impact on the failure modes of the RC beams. Consequently, the IHCs can provide a significant contribution to the structural behavior of RC beams. Yayın Transformation in consumption behavior and payment preferences of consumers (in different generations) with Covid-19 pandemic(Işık Üniversitesi, 2021-09-16) Zülfükar, Cihangir; Akseki, Pınar; Işık Üniversitesi, Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Yöneticiler için İşletme Yönetimi Yüksek Lisans ProgramıThe first Covid-19 case which is called corona virus, was detected on November 17, 2019, in Wuhan, China. With the number of increasing cases, no one thought it would require such radical changes in our living conditions at first. Due to the global and severe corona epidemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared global pandemic in March 2020. After this date, the Covid-19 pandemic undoubtedly caused many changes in our lives from politics to economy, from education to consumption. The 21’st century consumption is emerged from a system established on successful marketing, good sales skills, and persuasion of the consumer. While the concept of marketing was initially related to product’s quality; then in the following period, it turned into a system based upon successful marketing, good sales skills, and persuasion of the consumer. However, recent marketing has gained a new identity and has changed its shell as "first create a need, then satisfy that need". In such periods, consumer purchasing behavior changes completely and passes to a different dimension. In this study, we will examine how the consumption behaviors and payment preferences of people have changed. It deals with the results of the studies conducted on this subject in the world.Yayın Do emotional demands and exhaustion affect work engagement? the mediating role of mindfulness(Frontiers Media SA, 2024-1014) Karahan Kaplan, Merve; Bozkurt, Gözde; Aksu, Bumin Çağatay; Bozkurt, Serdar; Günsel, Ayşe; Gencer Çelik, GülşahAim: The current paper seeks to elucidate the interrelationships among emotional demands (ED), emotional exhaustion (EE), mindfulness, and work engagement (WE), with an explanation of the mediating role of mindfulness within indicated relationships. Background: Nurses working in a stress-related environment face some emotional challenges. New methods such as mindfulness should be learned; therefore, positive outcomes occur along with new developments. Method: Responses were received from nurses through a self-report questionnaire using the convenience sample technique. Four hundred and twenty-nine nurses from health institutions in Istanbul participated in the study. The PLS-SEM technique was used to test the research model. Results: ED and mindfulness, EE and mindfulness, and mindfulness and WE relationships were found. While mindfulness was a mediator between EE and WE, it was not a mediator between ED and WE. Conclusion: It has been revealed that nurses cope with job-related challenges by being present at the moment with high awareness. Furthermore, mindful nurses also foster positive outcomes. Implications for nursing management: Precautions should be taken because of the nursing shortage. It is better to provide mindfulness training to nursing students in schools before their professional lives. Implementing and using technologies might be helpful for nurses.
