CSR and social marketing as enablers of recovery after the global recession: the Turkish banking industry
(IGI Global, 2016-12-21) Gül, Mısra Çağla; Kaytaz, Mehmet
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a relatively new concept in Turkey. Leading companies including banks stress socially responsible activities in their marketing communications. The recent economic crisis put banks into the center stage again. Turkey was one of the few countries that emerged from the economic downturn relatively quickly. In the initial stages of the crisis, banks faced some criticism for protecting their self-interest more and not acting for the benefit of the society. Later, these criticisms got weaker and less frequent. This chapter examines the behavior of banks during the crisis with respect to CSR and social marketing. Particularly, the chapter analyzes how the banks behaved during the crisis and how they supported small and medium scale enterprises and local communities through CSR strategies, as well as how they utilized CSR efforts as a marketing tool. In addition, the outcome of these strategies is discussed.

DAG 4m telescope: optics completion, on-site integration and test
(SPIE, 2022) Pirnay, Olivier; Albart, Pierre; Bastin, Christian; De Ville, Jonathan; Gabriel, Eric; Leseur, Thibault; Lousberg, Grégory P.; Méant, Laurence; Orban, Sabrina; Tortolani, Jean-Marc; Amalfi, Manfredi; Marchiori, Gianpietro; Rampini, Francesco; Busatta, Andrea; Yeşilyaprak, Cahit; Keskin, Onur
AMOS with EIE as main subcontractor has recently completed the erection of the 4 m telescope located at the Turkish Eastern Anatolia Observatory (DAG) set up by the Ataturk University Astrophysics Research and Application Centre (ATASAM) of Erzurum. The telescope design is based on a Ritchey-Chrétien configuration with two folded Nasmyth focal planes and a focal length of 56m. The optical train is composed of three mirrors: the primary mirror (M1) with an optical aperture of 4m, a convex secondary mirror (M2), and a large flat folding mirror (M3). Diffraction-limited performances in optical and near infrared spectral bands will be achieved thanks to the combination of active and adaptive optics systems. The active optics system is controlling the shape of the primary mirror by means of 66 axial force actuators and position actively the secondary and tertiary mirrors by means of hexapods. The adaptive optics system will be implemented at one of the two Nasmyth ports. As main contractor, AMOS is in charge of the overall project management, the system engineering, the optical design and the active optics development. As main sub-contractor and partner of AMOS, EIE is in charge of the development of the mount. Following the factory acceptance in Europe, the telescope was dismounted and delivered in early 2021. The activities onsite were carried out according to the assembly, integration and verification plan (AIV plan). In the meantime, the fabrication of the 4 m primary mirror was completed, and the full set of mirrors was forwarded on-site before the end of the year 2021. In this paper is presented a brief description of the design and performances of the telescope followed by the project progress status at the time the optics are being integrated in the telescope for the first time. This includes the review of the mirrors as-built quality and the excepted performances of the telescope mount after alignment and tuning. The path forward final acceptance is explained with the presentation of the optical alignment method and the test carried-out on-sky.

First domino tile in the social innovation process: idea creation of university students
(IEEE, 2016-09-08) Yıldırım, Nihan; Ansal, Hacer
Interrelations between creativity, innovativeness and entrepreneurial skills of individuals have long been discussed in the literature. Due to the challenges regarding their measurement, most studies focused on the intentions rather than the outcomes. The idea generation that requires creativity is the first stage of social innovation. The young population's creative potentials in participating social innovation practices deserve a special attention as they play a critical role in the innovativeness and entrepreneurship of societies. This study aims to explore the factors that determine the creative intentions of university students that are important in generating social innovation projects. A structured survey based on the literature was conducted among 600 management and engineering students from 3 universities from the different percentiles of the Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index for 2012 of the Turkish Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. The survey included questions on the demographic characteristics, environmental factors, motivators, university/institutional context, perceptions and creative thinking attitudes. By conducting reliability and factor analysis, accuracy and validity of data is tested and the impact factors were identified. Findings reveal that visionary attitude, curiosity, exploration and learning, attitude for own creativity, self-esteem, perception about the learnability of creativity, university and social environment are components of creative thinking intentions of students and some of these factors vary by year of study and university.

Adaptive Volterra channel equalisation with lattice orthogonalisation
(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 1998-04) Özden, Mehmet Tahir; Kayran, Ahmet Hamdi; Panayırcı, Erdal
The authors present a new recursive least-squares adaptive nonlinear equaliser based on Volterra series expansion. The main approach is to transform the nonlinear equalisation problem into an equivalent multichannel, but linear, equalisation problem. Then the multichannel input signal is completely orthogonalised using sequential processing multichannel lattice stages. With the complete orthogonalisation of the input signal, only scalar operations are required, instability problems owing to matrix inversion are avoided, and good numerical properties are achieved. Avoidance of matrix inversion and vector operations reduce the complexity considerably, and make the filter highly modular and suitable for VLSI implementation. Several experiments demonstrating the performance under different channel distortion and channel noise conditions are also included in the paper.

Mixed-method validation of pedagogical concepts for an intercultural online learning environment: a case study
(Assoc Computing Machinery, 2007) Law, Effie Lai-Chong; Nguyen-Ngoc, Anh Vu; Kuru, Selahattin
The rise of social software poses the challenges to the design and evaluation of a pedagogically sound online learning environment (OLE). Our OLE addresses these challenges by the integration of three pedagogical concepts - cross-cultural collaboration, self-directed learning and social networking - with the aim to advance participants' competencies and by mixed-method approaches to evaluating the complex situations. A validation trial involving four European countries was conducted. Groups of students co-created a questionnaire, which was assessed to provide an indicator of task performance. Multi-source (surveys, blogs, emails, diaries, chats, videoconference, and interviews) and multi-perspective data (facilitators, students, researchers) were studied with social network analysis, content analysis and conversation analysis. Several a posteriori research questions are addressed.

    TUR2SQL: A cross-domain Turkish dataset for Text-to-SQL
(IEEE, 2023-09-15) Kanburoğlu, Ali Buğra; Tek, Faik Boray
The field of converting natural language into corresponding SQL queries using deep learning techniques has attracted significant attention in recent years. While existing Text-to-SQL datasets primarily focus on English and other languages such as Chinese, there is a lack of resources for the Turkish language. In this study, we introduce the first publicly available cross-domain Turkish Text-to-SQL dataset, named TUR2SQL. This dataset consists of 10,809 pairs of natural language statements and their corresponding SQL queries. We conducted experiments using SQLNet and ChatGPT on the TUR2SQL dataset. The experimental results show that SQLNet has limited performance and ChatGPT has superior performance on the dataset. We believe that TUR2SQL provides a foundation for further exploration and advancements in Turkish language-based Text-to-SQL research.

Mikro ölçekli hisselerde anormal fiyat hareketlerinin LSTM ile tahmini
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025-08-15) Recal, Füsun; Kayaçetin, Nuri Volkan; Kayahan, İsmail
