Yayın Cryptanalysis of Fridrich's chaotic image encryption(World Scientific Publishing, 2010-05) Solak, Ercan; Çokal, Cahit; Yıldız, Olcay Taner; Bıyıkoğlu, TürkerWe cryptanalyze Fridrich's chaotic image encryption algorithm. We show that the algebraic weaknesses of the algorithm make it vulnerable against chosen-ciphertext attacks. We propose an attack that reveals the secret permutation that is used to shuffle the pixels of a round input. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our attack with examples and simulation results. This study argues that the CHP's seeming scepticism towards the EU is not an ideological U-turn, but a conditional situation. The CHP's Euroscepticism is an outcome of its distrust of the Justice and Development Party government's honesty and ability in implementing the required reforms for Turkey's EU membership.Yayın Synergistic effect of the locust bean gum on the thermal phase transitions of kappa-carrageenan gels(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2009-03) Arda, Ertan; Kara, Selim; Pekcan, Mehmet ÖnderSynergism between K-carrageenan and locust bean gum (LBG) was studied using the photon transmission technique. Synergistic effects in these polymeric mixtures strongly affected the physical properties of the gel structure. The transmitted light intensities, I-tr, versus temperature variations were investigated during the gelation and liquefaction processes. Slight synergistic peaks were detected in gel-sol and sol-gel transition temperatures for high kappa-carrageenan/LBG ratios (approx. 80/2). Moreover, apparent synergistic peaks were observed in gel-sol and sol-gel transition activation energies for the mixtures approximately with the ratios of 80/10.Yayın Quantum metrology: Surpassing the shot-noise limit with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction(Nature Publishing Group, 2015-11-09) Özaydın, Fatih; Altıntaş, Azmi AliEntanglement is at the heart of quantum technologies such as quantum information and quantum metrology. Providing larger quantum Fisher information (QFI), entangled systems can be better resources than separable systems in quantum metrology. However the effects on the entanglement dynamics such as decoherence usually decrease the QFI considerably. On the other hand, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction has been shown to excite entanglement. Since an increase in entanglement does not imply an increase in QFI, and also there are cases where QFI decreases as entanglement increases, it is interesting to study the influence of DM interaction on quantum metrology. In this work, we study the QFI of thermal entanglement of two-qubit and three-qubit Heisenberg models with respect to SU(2) rotations. We show that even at high temperatures, DM interaction excites QFI of both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic models. We also show that QFI of the ferromagnetic model of two qubits can surpass the shot-noise limit of the separable states, while QFI of the antiferromagnetic model in consideration can only approach to the shot-noise limit. Our results open new insights in quantum metrology with Heisenberg models.Yayın Extremum-seeking control of ABS braking in road vehicles with lateral force improvement(IEEE-INST Electrical Electronics Engineers Inc, 2014-01) Dinçmen, Erkin; Güvenç, Bilin Aksun; Acarman, TankutAn ABS control algorithm based on extremum seeking is presented in this brief. The optimum slip ratio between the tire patch and the road is searched online without having to estimate road friction conditions. This is achieved by adapting the extremum-seeking algorithm as a self-optimization routine that seeks the peak point of the tire force-slip curve. As an additional novelty, the proposed algorithm incorporates driver steering input into the optimization procedure to determine the operating region of the tires on the "tire force"-"slip ratio" characteristic-curve. The algorithm operates the tires near the peak point of the force-slip curve during straight line braking. When the driver demands lateral motion in addition to braking, the operating regions of the tires are modified automatically, for improving the lateral stability of the vehicle by increasing the tire lateral forces. A validated, full vehicle model is presented and used in a simulation study to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Simulation results show the benefits of the proposed ABS controller.Yayın Coherent-array imaging using phased subarrays. Different imaging methods use different numbers of active channels and data collection strategies. Conventional full phased array (EPA) imaging produces the best image quality using all elements for both transmission and reception, and it has high front-end hardware complexity. In contrast, classical synthetic aperture (CSA) imaging only transmits on and receives from a single element at a time, minimizing the hardware complexity but achieving poor image quality. We propose a new coherent array imaging method-phased subarray (PSA) imagine-that performs partial transmit and receive beam-forming using a subset of adjacent elements at each firing step. This method reduces the number of active channels to the number of subarray elements; these channels are multiplexed across the full array and a reduced number of beams are acquired from each subarray. The low-resolution subarray images are laterally upsampled, interpolated, weighted, and coherently summed to form the final high-resolution PSA image. The PSA imaging reduces the complexity of the front-end hardware while achieving image quality approaching that of FPA imaging.Yayın A decision making support tool for selecting green building certification credits based on project delivery attributes(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2017-12) Seyis Kazazoğlu, Senem; Ergen Pehlevan, EsinThe Green Building (GB) certification process embodies detailed requirements and specifications that lead to additional tasks for project teams, which increases complexity levels of the entire project delivery process. Previous studies show that if the GB certification credits to be fulfilled are selected without considering project team attributes, then elevated levels of time, money, and labor could get wasted while attempting to meet the additional requirements of GB certification. The aim of this study is to develop a multi-attribute decision making (MADM) support tool to be used by GB experts to select the appropriate GB certification credits based on the project team attributes. The developed framework with relative weights assigned via the Delphi method was used to perform the MADM analysis, which employs the hybrid use of the Multi Attribute Utility Technique (MAUT) and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). This paper presents the developed MADM tool (i.e., GB-CS tool) and the relative weights of the attributes that were determined following expert opinions. To validate the tool, a case study was conducted at a LEED-registered residential project. The results show that the GB-CS Tool was successful in ranking the GB certification credits to be selected. This hybrid MADM tool can be used for preventing disruptions and bottlenecks in GB project delivery processes by assisting the owners/GB consultants in effectively selecting suitable GB certification credits based on the project team attributes. This paper is the continuation of our previous work on ensemble subset selection [A. Ulas, M. Semerci, O.T. Yildiz, E. Alpaydin, Incremental construction of classifier and discriminant ensembles, Information Sciences, 179 (9) (2009) 1298-1318] and has two parts: first, we investigate the effect of four factors on correlation: (i) algorithms used for training, (ii) hyperparameters of the algorithms, (iii) resampled training sets, (iv) input feature subsets. Simulations using 14 classifiers on 38 data sets indicate that hyperparameters and overlapping training sets have higher effect on positive correlation than features and algorithms. Second, we propose postprocessing before fusing using principal component analysis (PCA) to form uncorrelated eigenclassifiers from a set of correlated experts. Combining the information from all classifiers may be better than subset selection where some base classifiers are pruned before combination, because using all allows redundancy.Yayın Power control for two user cooperative OFDMA channels(IEEE-INST Electrical Electronics Engineers Inc, 2013-01) Bakım, İsmail Sezi; Kaya, OnurFor a two user cooperative orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system with full channel state information (CSI), we obtain the optimal power allocation (PA) policies which maximize the rate region achievable by a channel adaptive implementation of inter-subchannel block Markov superposition encoding (BMSE), used in conjunction with backwards decoding. We provide the optimality conditions that need to be satisfied by the powers associated with the users' codewords and derive the closed form expressions for the optimal powers. We propose two algorithms that can be used to optimize the powers to achieve any desired rate pair on the rate region boundary: a projected subgradient algorithm, and an iterative waterfilling-like algorithm based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions for optimality, which operates one user at a time and converges much faster. We observe that, utilization of power control to take advantage of the diversity offered by the cooperative OFDMA system, not only leads to a remarkable improvement in achievable rates, but also may help determine how the subchannels have to be instantaneously allocated to various tasks in cooperation. Simulations show that the gain from power allocation is still significant even when the CSI feedback is limited.Yayın Tectonic and climatic controls on Quaternary fluvial processes and river terrace formation in a Mediterranean setting, the Goksu River, southern Turkey(Cambridge University Press, 2019-03) Avşin Görendağlı, Nurcan; Vandenberghe, Jef; Van Balen, Ronald; Güneç Kıyak, Nafiye; Öztürk, TuğbaClimate and tectonics effect the fluvial evolution of the Mediterranean Mut basin. The basin contains a river terrace staircase of 16 levels (T16-T1) ranging from 365 to 10m above the current Goksu River in its middle and lower sections. These river terraces records tectonic uplift in the Mut basin. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating of the fluvial sediments of the youngest terrace (T16) provides a chronology for the assessment of the important impacts of climatic changes. The ages from the youngest river terrace deposits in T16 may be subdivided into two intervals: (1) 239-194.7 ka during the later part of Marine Oxygen Isotope Stage (MIS) 7, implying that the aggradation of T16 started in (the final phase of) this warm period; and (2) 187.9-171 ka during much of MIS 6. Thus, it appears that the Goksu River continued depositing sediment from an interglacial into a glacial time. The differences in climate-driven fluvial evolution between this Mediterranean fluvial system and the classical, well-studied temperate-periglacial river systems in Europe may be the result of different vegetation cover and greater thaw of more intense snowfalls.
