Yayın Dilemma of the HR manager: An optimization for training and development budgets using integer programming a case study from an international firm(Int Inst Informatics & Systemics, 2005) Yanık, Serhat; Yazıcı, Selim; Şenel, İlhan KeremThis paper is about a dilemma of an HR manager of an international company. The major problem of HR managers is to minimize their training and development budgets. Making a training budget is not so complex; but the important, yet often neglected, part of budgeting is the costs of absence of employees. In every kind of training, whether traditional or e-learning, there is a cost for the time being spent away from work. Some of the managers think that this is an idle time for company, plus the employee is paid during this period. This paper focuses on the costs of the absence and their effect on training budgets. Some scenarios were developed with the help of an HR manager of an international firm. The feasibility of these scenarios was studied by using integer programming.Yayın Design and implementation of a software agent platform applied in E-learning and course management(Işık Üniversitesi, 2004-08) Erdoğan, Gürol; Kuru, Selahattin; Işık Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Yüksek Lisans ProgramıIn this thesis, we report an experience on constructing a software agent platform for development and implementation of software agent systems running with integrated e-learning and course management applications which are developed and running under different technologies. The proposed platform consists of an agent development framework namely JADE (Java Agent Development Environmet), a common database infrastructure serving to many different applications and the applications infrastructure running on different platforms. An example e-university application module which is an integrated course management software running on the proposed platform namely Course ON-LINE and an agent application running as an add-on utility to this application namely GAIA is explained in detail to demonstrate the use of the proposed application.Yayın Mixed-method validation of pedagogical concepts for an intercultural online learning environment: a case study(Assoc Computing Machinery, 2007) Law, Effie Lai-Chong; Nguyen-Ngoc, Anh Vu; Kuru, SelahattinThe rise of social software poses the challenges to the design and evaluation of a pedagogically sound online learning environment (OLE). Our OLE addresses these challenges by the integration of three pedagogical concepts - cross-cultural collaboration, self-directed learning and social networking - with the aim to advance participants' competencies and by mixed-method approaches to evaluating the complex situations. A validation trial involving four European countries was conducted. Groups of students co-created a questionnaire, which was assessed to provide an indicator of task performance. Multi-source (surveys, blogs, emails, diaries, chats, videoconference, and interviews) and multi-perspective data (facilitators, students, researchers) were studied with social network analysis, content analysis and conversation analysis. Several a posteriori research questions are addressed.
