Yayın Tribo-corrosion behavior of electroplating, nitrocarburizing, and QPQ processes on barrel finishing(Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2023-11-27) Yücel, Aysu Hande; Yılmaz, Alpay; Bakkal, Mustafa; Kuzu, Ali TanerIn this study, the effects of nitrocarburizing, QPQ, and Cr coating on the surface properties of 32CrMoV12-10 gun barrels are discussed. Hardness measurements, pin-on-disc tests, and anodic polarization tests were performed to examine the hardness values, wear resistance, friction coefficient, and corrosion resistance. The hardness of the specimen treated with QPQ was found to be the highest. Comparing the hardness profiles, it was observed that the casing depth of the nitrocarburized sample was shallower than that of the QPQ-treated sample. The pin-on-disc test revealed that the nitrocarburized sample exhibited a high coefficient of friction, while the Cr-coated sample showed the lowest coefficient of friction. Analyzing the Tafel polarization curve, it was determined that the nitrocarburized and QPQ-treated specimens demonstrated similar levels of corrosion resistance. However, it can be noted that the QPQ-treated specimen had a slightly lower corrosion rate.Yayın Political perceptions of party voters and members in Turkey(Routledge, 2018) Ecevit, Yüksel Alper; Celep, ÖdülIntroduction The purpose of this chapter is to examine the relationship between the political perceptions of party voters and party members in a highly polarised political context like Turkey’s. This analysis will help us to understand the micro-foundations of polarisation at different layers of political parties. As in other electoral autocracies, defectors constitute a small but politically significant group in Turkey, where the opposition’s ability to secure a transition from authoritarianism depends on reducing the incumbent’s vote share. Based on survey data gathered in November 2021 and February 2022, we find that while the high level of partizanship among AKP voters hinders defection, persistent economic and democratic decline still reduces incumbent support. We also found that defections are higher outside of the lowest income group. Our findings have important implications for opposition strategies in electoral autocracies. Directing public debate away from identity issues to economic and democratic problems increases the likelihood of defection. In addition, offering voters clear superior alternatives decreases the cost of uncertainty that comes with change and increases the likelihood of defection.Yayın Defeating populists: the case of 2019 Istanbul elections(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2021-01-02) Demiralp, Seda; Balta, EvrenHow can populist competitive authoritarian regimes be defeated through elections? In this article, we focus on the 2019 municipal campaign strategy of the opposition Istanbul candidate Ekrem Imamoglu as a case study of a successful challenge to a populist competitive authoritarian regime. We argue that such regimes may be prone to defeat when their opponents use what we call an 'inverted populist' strategy. This strategy involves three key elements: adopting an indirect and gradualist approach that avoids direct confrontation with the populist leader and the popular values s/he represents, redefining the 'the people' by including previously excluded groups, and promising redistribution to disadvantaged groups.
