Yayın CSR practices in Turkey: Examining CSR reports(Greenleaf Publishing, 2015-07) Uyan Atay, Bilge; Tuncay Çelikel, AslıThis study examines the private companies that publish CSR reports in Turkey. Turkey has a growing economy, located in an international arena with an increasing number of global brands starting to export their products from Turkey with even more multinational enterprises (MNEs) planning to locate in the country. Now, some Turkish companies and subsidiaries of MNEs have started to publish CSR reports. Our findings show that strong Turkish conglomerates are playing a constructive role in macro-level development and governance in Turkey. They are also addressing local problems such as education, human rights, environmental protection and workers' rights. Besides, subsidiaries of MNEs are also having an impact with respect to the application of their headquarters' community programs in Turkish society.Yayın The moderating role of environmental munificence on innovativeness in B2B markets(Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2019-09-30) Gül, Mısra ÇağlaPurpose: The purpose of this paper is to understand the relationship between two business orientations, namely, entrepreneurial orientation and market orientation, and innovativeness taking into account the moderating influence of environmental munificence. Design/methodology/approach: This is a multiple respondent quantitative study. A total of 312 marketing managers middle level and above from 79 firms participated in the survey. Multiple regression and hierarchical multiple regression was the method of choice for data analysis. Findings: Findings indicate that environmental munificence moderates the entrepreneurial orientation – innovativeness relationship. Findings reveal that even though a significant impact of entrepreneurial orientation is not present on innovativeness, this insignificance may be due to environmental munificence. Market orientation has a direct positive impact on innovativeness, and environmental munificence negatively moderates this relationship suggesting that when the environment is less munificent, the market orientation – innovation link becomes stronger. Practical implications: Managers should be aware that the more munificent an environment becomes, having an entrepreneurial orientation will be more important for innovativeness. In addition, results of this study suggest that being market oriented more strongly impacts a firm’s ability to innovate in non-munificent environments where growth opportunities are undesirable. Originality/value: This study is unique in that it is a multi-respondent study with respondents from different layers of each participating organization, incorporating the moderating impact of the business environment’s munificence on business orientations–innovativeness relationship.Yayın Relative effects of marketing effectiveness dimensions on firm performance: An empirical analysis with a multi-industry sample(Bogazici Universitesi, 2009) Gül, Mısra ÇağlaThe aim of this study is to understand the influence of marketing operational efficiency and marketing system effectiveness on firm performance dimensions. Marketing operational efficiency and marketing system effectiveness are two dimensions of marketing effectiveness derived as a result of the exploratory factor analysis performed on the data. Firm performance dimensions used in the study are overall performance, ROI, percentage of new product sales, change in market share, and sales growth, all measured relative to competitors. Multiple respondent firm level data are collected through a survey of 74 firms operating in a variety of industries, resulting in 296 individual surveys. Findings indicate that marketing operational efficiency, a set of short-term, operational dimensions, positively influences all of the firm performance dimensions. On the other hand, marketing system effectiveness, measuring longer-term, strategic factors, does not have such an impact.Yayın Cointegration and adjustment dynamics of REIT and stock markets during the global financial and European debt crises(Inderscience Publishers, 2020-06-03) Erol, Ümit; Yüksel, Sadettin Aydın; Yüksel, Aslı; Öztürk, HakkıThis paper analyses the cointegration relationship between the REIT and stock markets of ten developed countries during the 2005-2013 period, which is characterised by the global financial and the European debt crises. Given the structural breaks in the data, the effect of these two crises is examined separately by dividing the sample period into four equal parts and by using M-TAR cointegration analysis. The results suggest that the cointegration between the stock and REIT markets was not a globally observed feature prior to the twin crises. The strong and globally valid cointegration observed after 2007 was due to the common negative response of both markets to the unexpected massive shocks. These shocks also led to bilateral causality and strong feedback effects between these two markets, thus strictly limiting the diversification benefits of the REIT market during the crisis period.Yayın Failure of an exchange-rate-based stabilization plan in Turkey(M E Sharpe, 2003-02) Gökkent, Giyas; Moslares, Carlos; Amiel-Saenz, RafaelThe Turkish exchange-rate-based stabilization plan adopted in 2000 has been a spectacular failure, lasting a mere fourteen months despite a relatively flexible peg regime and preannounced exit strategy. The final three months of the currency regime were marred by the eruption of a banking sector crisis that quickly developed into a currency crisis, quelled only by external loans and a blanket guarantee by the sovereign of all banking sector liabilities. This was ultimately to no avail as the lira was allowed to float following a full-fledged currency crisis in late February 2001. The usual indicators of crisis did not point to imminent turmoil in November 2000 despite widespread concern about eventual dire developments. The aim of this paper is to complement the findings of the studies on productivity differences in Turkey's manufacturing industry by exploring the spatial determinants of productivity at the regional level. The discussion is based on an econometric analysis for the years between 1980 and 2000. The results suggest that related variety, proximity to core areas, high wages, and capital intensity contribute to regional productivity.Yayın Advergaming - how does cognitive overload effect brand recall? This study examines the impacts of cognitive overload with placement prominence on respondents' brand recall, recognition and brand attitudes. An experiment was conducted on a group of university students with an exposure to an advergame under low and high cognitive load stimulus. Results showed that brands that are placed prominently are better recalled in high cognitive load condition. However, cognitive overload doesn't have any significant effect on the recognition of the main brand in which the advergames is specifically designed. Moreover, there is no difference in recall of subtly placed products in low and high cognitive load conditions. However, there is a significant difference in brand attitude in different cognitive loads. The study both investigated the context of advergames and as well in-game advertising (IGA) situations. Unlike their predecessors, these new tests assume the existence of cross-section dependence in the data. For the sample analyzed, we report that these new tests, but not their predecessors, provide strong support for the existence of cointegration between stock and goods prices. Moreover, further analysis cannot reject the hypothesis that the cointegration relation is linear. Some of the managers think that this is an idle time for company, plus the employee is paid during this period. This paper focuses on the costs of the absence and their effect on training budgets. Some scenarios were developed with the help of an HR manager of an international firm. Global business environment resulted with increased importance of project management methodologies, aligned with competitive strategies. Today, many organizations have recognized the importance of implementing PMO's for effective project control and better stakeholder (executives) support for projects. PMOs also undertake strategic roles such as incorporating higher management support to achieve strategic goals, integrating business strategies into project management efforts, and prioritization of projects. This paper examines PMOs in the process of strategic alignment. Moreover, the contribution of PMOs to achieve strategic goals is explored. Our initial findings are promising represented in a framework, and demonstrated by a case study application review using IT and telecommunication companies selected from Turkey. The research offers future directions and implications of a well-established successful PMO system.
