Yayın CSR practices in Turkey: Examining CSR reports(Greenleaf Publishing, 2015-07) Uyan Atay, Bilge; Tuncay Çelikel, AslıThis study examines the private companies that publish CSR reports in Turkey. Turkey has a growing economy, located in an international arena with an increasing number of global brands starting to export their products from Turkey with even more multinational enterprises (MNEs) planning to locate in the country. Now, some Turkish companies and subsidiaries of MNEs have started to publish CSR reports. Our findings show that strong Turkish conglomerates are playing a constructive role in macro-level development and governance in Turkey. They are also addressing local problems such as education, human rights, environmental protection and workers' rights. Besides, subsidiaries of MNEs are also having an impact with respect to the application of their headquarters' community programs in Turkish society.Yayın Advergaming - how does cognitive overload effect brand recall? Differences between in-game advertising (IGA) and advergames(IGI Global, 2017-01-06) Şağkaya Güngör, Ayşegül; Ozansoy Çadırcı, Tuğçe; Köse, Şirin GizemAdvergaming serves as a new and valuable form of online advertising, especially for companies that target young consumers. This study examines the impacts of cognitive overload with placement prominence on respondents' brand recall, recognition and brand attitudes. An experiment was conducted on a group of university students with an exposure to an advergame under low and high cognitive load stimulus. Results showed that brands that are placed prominently are better recalled in high cognitive load condition. However, cognitive overload doesn't have any significant effect on the recognition of the main brand in which the advergames is specifically designed. Moreover, there is no difference in recall of subtly placed products in low and high cognitive load conditions. However, there is a significant difference in brand attitude in different cognitive loads. The study both investigated the context of advergames and as well in-game advertising (IGA) situations. The results of the study have both practical and theoretical implications.Yayın Dilemma of the HR manager: An optimization for training and development budgets using integer programming a case study from an international firm(Int Inst Informatics & Systemics, 2005) Yanık, Serhat; Yazıcı, Selim; Şenel, İlhan KeremThis paper is about a dilemma of an HR manager of an international company. The major problem of HR managers is to minimize their training and development budgets. Making a training budget is not so complex; but the important, yet often neglected, part of budgeting is the costs of absence of employees. In every kind of training, whether traditional or e-learning, there is a cost for the time being spent away from work. Some of the managers think that this is an idle time for company, plus the employee is paid during this period. This paper focuses on the costs of the absence and their effect on training budgets. Some scenarios were developed with the help of an HR manager of an international firm. The feasibility of these scenarios was studied by using integer programming.Yayın Strategic alignment and project management offices: case studies from successful implementations in Turkey(IEEE, 2013-03-18) Karayaz, Gamze; Güngör, ÖzgeDue to an increased need for learning modern project management methodologies, companies have been forced to improve their knowledge of Project Management Offices (PMO). Global business environment resulted with increased importance of project management methodologies, aligned with competitive strategies. Today, many organizations have recognized the importance of implementing PMO's for effective project control and better stakeholder (executives) support for projects. PMOs also undertake strategic roles such as incorporating higher management support to achieve strategic goals, integrating business strategies into project management efforts, and prioritization of projects. This paper examines PMOs in the process of strategic alignment. Moreover, the contribution of PMOs to achieve strategic goals is explored. Our initial findings are promising represented in a framework, and demonstrated by a case study application review using IT and telecommunication companies selected from Turkey. The research offers future directions and implications of a well-established successful PMO system.Yayın Developing organizational maturity for effective project management(IGI Global, 2018-03-09) Silvius, A. J.Gilbert; Karayaz, GamzeDespite criticism for their serious shortcomings, maturity models are widely used within organizations. Featuring coverage on a wide array of topics such as project management maturity, agile maturity, and organizational performance, this publication is geared toward professionals, managers, and students seeking current research on the application of maturity models to corporate success.Yayın Governance of technology and innovation policy mix: The estonian experience since 2000(Canadian Center of Science and Education, 2015) Görkey Aydınoğlu, Selda; Özdemir, ZekaiTechnology and innovation policies began to be implemented in Estonia in the 2000s, a time when the country’s governance system for technology and innovation policy was still weak. However, by building strong institutions, increasing budgets for research, and designing successful policies, rapid development of the governance system resulted in a short span of time. Successful implementation of European-type innovation policies helped to build strong governance as well. This study examines technology and innovation policies and the associated governance system in Estonia with a focus on the post-2000 period. Even though the country is generally accepted as a success story for strengthening its governance, and for the Europeanization of its technology and innovation policy, it still faces major problems. These problems will erode the strong governance system if they remain unsolved. Estonia is coping with relative worsening of the main outputs of technology policies, and the effects of the 2008-2009 economic crisis made the downturn more evident. Hence, defining and evaluating these weaknesses would be valuable for the country in order to pursue rapid development, which peaked in 2007-2008 and has slowed down since.Yayın Competency approach to human resources management: Outcomes and contributions in a Turkish cultural context(Sage Publications, 2006-03) Özçelik, Gaye; Ferman, Ali MuratThis article examines the competency approach to human resources management (HRM) in organizations through a review of literature and theories on the competency perspective. Building on previous theory and some empirical evidence, a new competency framework is developed. The main purpose of the article is to examine the effectiveness of the competency approach as a human resources strategy for promoting expected roles, skills, and behaviors in organizations. The article also examines potential challenges to implementing a competency approach to HRM in a special cultural context. This is provided by a case study in a multinational, fast-moving, consumer goods company in Turkey. One of the findings of the study is that there are challenges to implementing the competency approach due to the cultural differences between home and host countries. If properly designed, however, the competency approach can enhance selection, development, promotion, and reward processes to meet both individual and organizational needs.Yayın Stock return seasonality and the temperature effect(EuroJournals Publishing, 2009-12) Yüksel, Aslı; Yüksel, Sadettin AydınMotivated by prior evidence that the relation between temperature and stock returns may be spurious, this study investigates the extent to which accounting for seasonality changes the explanatory power of temperature for stock index returns. Prior research using monthly data indicates that the portion of variability in stock returns that is explained by temperature can be explained equally well by any seasonal variable. Using daily stock market index and temperature data from 42 countries the effect of temperature on both the mean and variance of stock returns is analyzed through the use of GARCH modeling. The results show that a significant portion of the temperature effect is due to seasonal component of raw temperature. Furthermore, deseasonalized temperature has a moderate impact not only on the mean but also on the conditional variance of stock index returns. The results also indicate that the Halloween indicator, which is a seasonal dummy variable, has much less explanatory power using daily rather than monthly data. Its presence does not affect the explanatory power of deseasonalized temperature. Based on the findings, the paper concludes that although the relation between temperature and stock returns is not spurious, it is weaker than indicated by some earlier studies.Yayın Innovation and technology from marketing perspective (from the 1980s to 2000s) with a case study on Turkish women entrepreneurs on agricultural cooperatives(Peter Lang AG, 2020-03-02) Develi, Evrim İldem[No abstract available]Yayın Designing project management systems(IEEE, 2011) Karayaz, Gamze; Keating, Charles B.; Henrie, Morgan E.The purpose of this paper is to develop the concept of project management system from the perspective of systems science. There is a need to extend the body of knowledge for project management. In particular, the application of systems perspectives and systems theory offers a significant opportunity to advance the current state of project management knowledge. Although there have been suggestions of systems approaches for project management, rigorous systems science has not been used to support these depictions. First, we develop the background and define a perspective of project management systems. Second, assumptions and principles are drawn from systems science to provide a foundation for project management systems. Third, a model for project management systems is developed from systems sciences and management cybernetics. Our initial explorations are promising, demonstrated by a case study application review using a complex system of systems (SoS) project encompassed multiple government agencies, and we offer future directions and implications for further model refinements, applications, and research into project management systems.
