    Venture capital and business angels: Turkish case

    Venture capital (VC) may be defined as a support to entrepreneurial talents and appetite by turning ideas and basic science into products and services which are expected to envy the world. Although venture capitalists and business angels supply external funding for risky investments, the aspects of venture capitalists and business angels are different approaching the investment candidates. Business angels in the last decade have become undispansible players providing external capital for risky start-ups and contributing technological advancements and economic growth. Business angels could be either private wealth individuals or institutional venture capitalists. Private angels invest their own money that's why their invested capacity are limited while venture capitalists invest others'money with an extensive source. This research examines the the way of doing business for venture capitalists and business angels. Furthermore, venture capital market and business angels are reviewed for the Turkish case.

    First domino tile in the social innovation process: idea creation of university students

    Interrelations between creativity, innovativeness and entrepreneurial skills of individuals have long been discussed in the literature. Due to the challenges regarding their measurement, most studies focused on the intentions rather than the outcomes. The idea generation that requires creativity is the first stage of social innovation. The young population's creative potentials in participating social innovation practices deserve a special attention as they play a critical role in the innovativeness and entrepreneurship of societies. This study aims to explore the factors that determine the creative intentions of university students that are important in generating social innovation projects. A structured survey based on the literature was conducted among 600 management and engineering students from 3 universities from the different percentiles of the Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index for 2012 of the Turkish Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. The survey included questions on the demographic characteristics, environmental factors, motivators, university/institutional context, perceptions and creative thinking attitudes. By conducting reliability and factor analysis, accuracy and validity of data is tested and the impact factors were identified. Findings reveal that visionary attitude, curiosity, exploration and learning, attitude for own creativity, self-esteem, perception about the learnability of creativity, university and social environment are components of creative thinking intentions of students and some of these factors vary by year of study and university.

    An overview of angel investor ecosystem

    Purpose - The dynamics of the startup ecosystem exhibit variety from a country to another. A similar alteration applies for the characteristics of angel investors as they are an integral part of the startup ecosystem. Thus, it is required to have a closer look to the most recent local statistics to understand how the trends are swiftly changing in Turkey. This study distinguishes itself from the majority of the literature that it comes with suggestions for improving particularly the Turkish angel investor ecosystem. Methodology - In the study, a comprehensive literature review is conducted to learn about the current circumstances of the European angel investor ecosystem and have a deep understanding about the Turkish angel investor ecosystem so that further improvements could be developed. Findings - At the end of the literature review, seven major points open for the improvement of Turkish angel investor ecosystem are spotted. The issues present in the ecosystem such as the absence of strong connection among angel investors, the shortfall of angel investors’ skills in certain fields, the insufficient technical knowledge of some entrepreneurs, the reservations caused by geographical remoteness, the underrepresentation of female angel investor, the lack of knowledge about the benefits of angel investing to both parties, the hardships in reaching out to early adopters are of utmost importance to be addressed. Conclusion - In angel investing context, Turkey has a significant potential to be uncovered but needs to resolve the mentioned issues. It requires notable attention both from public and private sectors. This aim could be achieved through facilitating the networking practices among angel investors, nourishing the soft skills of angel investors, encouraging knowledge sharing, benefiting technological advancements to eliminate the problems caused by geographical remoteness, incentivizing participation of more female angel investors, raising awareness about the possible benefits of angel investment to both sides, and easing the access to early adopters.

    The impact of entrepreneurship education on Generation Z

    This thesis is based on measuring the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education on Generation Z. Measurements are made underlining the extent to which entrepreneurship education supports young individuals to form a positive attitude and behavior to start their own ventures, and the contribution of this education to young people's development of creativity and innovative skills in their career life is discussed. For this purpose, qualitative and quantitative analyses were applied using primary and secondary data collection methods. A sample of 201 people was surveyed. The purpose of this analysis is to determine how much Generation Z's thinking is influenced by entrepreneurship education. It examines how learning, personal development, materialistic goals and entrepreneurial aspirations interact. The research questionnaire was carefully and sensitively constructed to capture people's diverse perspectives. In order to measure the reliability and validity of the questions different statistical tests were performed including Descriptive Statistical analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis and Correlations analysis. The research survey is carefully and precisely constructed to capture the various viewpoints of people. The survey's findings showed that respondents' average scores on a wide range of questionnaire items were constantly high. This suggests that entrepreneurship education has a big impact on Generation Z's thinking. The dependability of the study questionnaire also confirmed reliable assessments of the underlying construct. The analysis's findings showed that entrepreneurship and a number of other parameters have positive relationships. These results contribute to a better comprehension of the relationship between entrepreneurship and education.
