Narsisizme dair bir inceleme: Peter Sellers’ın hayatı ve ölümü

Bu makalede, 20. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinde dünyaya gözlerini açmış ünlü İngiliz komedyen Peter Sellers’ın hayatı, kariyeri ve hayat verdiği karakterleri anlatan 2004 yapımı “Peter Sellers’ın Doğumu ve Ölümü” filmi, narsisizme dair çağının öncüsü kuramlar çerçevesinden ele alınmıştır. Tiyatro kökenli bir aileden gelen Peter Sellers’ın kariyeri BBC radyosunda, Britanya’nın politik tutumunu, diplomasiyi ve ekonomiyi gerçek üstü bir mizah ekseninde ele alan bir tür komedi-varyete programıyla başlamış, ardından sinemayla ve adından çokça bahsettiren filmlerle devam etmiştir. Ünlü Pembe Panter (Pink Panther) filminde sakarlıklarına rağmen olayları bir şekilde tesadüfen çözmeyi başarabilen Müfettiş Clouseau karakteriyle büyük bir şöhret yakalayan Sellers; bu başarısının ardından daha pek çok meşhur filmde rol almıştır. Bu makale temelde iki bölümden oluşmaktadır. Peter Sellers’ın kısa hayat hikayesi ardından, Freud sonrası Kohut, Kernberg, Winnicott ve Lacan gibi çağdaş kuramcıların narsisizme dair teorik perspektifine yer verilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Freud sonrası çağdaş kuramcıların narsisizm kuramlarından yola çıkarak betimleyici bir içerik analizi oluşturmaktır.

In this article, the 2004 film “The Birth and Death of Peter Sellers”, which tells the life, career, characters of the famous British comedian Peter Sellers, who opened his eyes to the world in the first quarter of the 20th century, is discussed within the framework of narcissistic theories. Coming from a family of theatre actors, Peter Sellers’ career started with a comedy-variety program on BBC radio, which deals with British politics with surreal humor, and then continued with cinema. Sellers, who achieved great fame with the character of Inspector Clouseau, who managed to solve the events by chance despite his clumsiness in the famous Pink Panther movie. After giving the brief life story of Peter Sellers, narcissism is explained through different perspectives on the mental state and relations of the infantile that have developed and transformed since Freud; followed by the theoretical perspective of contemporary theorists such as Kohut, Kernberg, Winnicott and Lacan on narcissism. Then, the life and movies of Peter Sellers are analyzed through theoretical perspectives that explain narcissism within the scope of the movie “Life and Death of Peter Sellers”. The aim of this study is to create a descriptive content analysis based on the theories of narcissism by post-Freud contemporary theorists.
